In his Apostolic Exhortation, Familiaris Consortio, John Paul II declared how “the family in the modern world, as much as and perhaps more than any other institution, has been beset by the many profound and rapid changes that have affected society and culture.” He continues to state that “many families are living this situation in fidelity to those values that constitute the foundation of the institution of the family. Others have become uncertain and bewildered over their role or even doubtful and almost unaware of the ultimate meaning and truth of conjugal and family life. Finally, there are others who are hindered by various situations of injustice in the realization of their fundamental rights.” In this book, Father Carlos Miguel Buela (IVE) includes two articles pertaining to family life in the modern world. The first article, “Modern attacks against the family,” seeks to penetrate the mission, essence, end and gifts of marriage and the family, as well as the enemies which attack them. The second article, “Catholic Courtship,” provides some reflections on the important stage of marriage preparation and its impact on the future of the couple who seeks to become one in the eyes of God. In his pastoral work among young people, Father Buela illustrates how a true, authentic courtship must be rooted in a morality and spirituality centered in the love of Christ and of his Church. The beauty of the Christian marriage can be seen further in the joys of their love and family life, Christ gives the married couple on earth a foretaste of the celestial, wedding feast (cf. CCC 1642).aa
